Teacher Profile

Lilli Ann Miller

email: lilliann.miller@prepclasses.org

Lilli Ann Miller holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, where she also served as an instructor in biology and genetics for three years.  A Fulbright-Hays grant gave her the opportunity to travel to the United States and obtain her Master of Science in Biology at the University of Houston. She taught undergraduate lab classes in biology while in the graduate program and pursued research in molecular genetics

She began her journey as a home educator when her oldest child started school in 1996. Over the years, her family participated in various co-ops where she taught history, literature, elementary science and biology to students from K-12th grade. From 2017-2020, she supervised online classes as a classroom teacher in biology at HSLDA Online Academy.

Lilli Ann and her husband, Jeff are blessed with five grown children who have all taken classes from PREP.  Their four older children are all out of college and, with their youngest child’s graduation from high school in 2023, they officially drew to a close 27 years of homeschooling. The Millers have participated in home churches for more than 30 years.  Lilli Ann and Jeff love to travel, catch up with friends, enjoy movie nights with the family, and visits with the grandkids.

Teacher's Classes

Come explore the fascinating study of LIFE!

  • Students will embark on a comprehensive survey of God’s creation by exposure to different fields in the biological sciences, from the study of the fundamental unit of life in cell biology to understanding the human body in anatomy and physiology. These provide basic tools to investigate what makes up living things, how they work, and how they relate with one another and the physical world.
  • Theories of biological origins, current advances in biotechnology, environmental issues, and their social implications are discussed from a biblical perspective. Opposing world views are presented throughout the course so students might see the truth of Scripture in light of scientific study.
  • In addition to lectures and discussions, class activities include lab experiments, microscopy, and dissections — all designed to enhance comprehension of concepts learned.
  • There will be opportunities to hone research and oral presentation skills in preparation for collegiate work. Students will write two short scientific papers, one on a biotechnology topic of their choice (fall semester) and a human body disease/disorder (spring semester). They will also research proofs to construct a persuasive outline on creation vs. evolution.
  • Special projects will include collection and classification of leaves and wildflowers - wonderful ways to experience greater awareness of beauty, order, and design in nature!
  • Parents will partner with Mrs. Miller to ensure their student’s success. Please check the Parent Section of the class website weekly and oversee student’s homework and completion of assigned tasks (see link below).
  • For more information on the class, visit: https://sites.google.com/view/prepbiology-lmiller.

Additional Course Information

  • This course will earn 1 high school honors credit in science.
  • Though not a prerequisite, it will benefit the student to have taken a general science class, or preferably IPC, prior to registering in this course. Geometry is also the recommended math to accompany biology.
  • Class meets for three (3) hours once a week: 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays
  • Textbooks: Bob Jones 5th Edition Biology (ISBN: 160682936X) and Biology Laboratory Manual (ISBN: 1628560231).  Purchase student materials only.
  • Tuition: $650/year or 10 monthly payments of $65
  • Fees: Laboratory Fee - $90 (one-time fee). The lab fee and Mrs. Miller’s Class Registration Form must be received before a student’s place will be held in class. The Lab Fee is non-refundable after August 1.  Withdrawal fee after 9/30/24 is 3 months’ tuition.

**Section A and B are the same class offered at different times.  Please only register for one of them.

Come and explore God's biological creation and learn important skills through the study of life science. This course will examine living things—starting with the fascinating world of cells, to the hierarchy of organisms like bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, animals, then humans, and finally, how they all interact with their environment. All these concepts are approached with the goal to better understand the living world that God created.

Class format includes a lecture which introduces the chapter concepts and prepares students for the laboratory exercises and periodic testing. This class is also

designed to teach and hone skills in the following areas as students prepare for high school and beyond:

*Research - a guided research paper on a major biome is the done as a spring

       project.

*Study strategies - by exploring how the student learns best and by reinforcing

acquired information in a variety of ways for greater retention

*Note taking - students learn to record important points from the lecture.

*Public speaking/oral reporting - students share their researched information

when they give a formal presentation of their research paper.

*Lab technique - developed during microscopy labs, dissections, as well as other

       lab activities.

*Critical thinking - facilitated class discussions help build critical thinking skills.

Parents partner with Mrs. Miller to ensure their student's success by checking Google Classroom weekly to oversee their student's completion of assignments and help them review for testing.  For more information, please visit:
