In the Elementary Art program, students will explore creativity, self-expression, art processes and mediums. Students will engage in creative problem-solving and critical thinking. They will be challenged to express their ideas visually. Heavy emphasis will be placed on the artistic processes and techniques through various mediums.
The curriculum aims to achieve the following objectives:
1. Hands-On Creation: Through hands-on activities, students will experiment with different art materials, such as paints, pastels, clay, as well as other 3-D materials. They’ll create their own artworks, developing skills in drawing, painting, mixed media, and other techniques. Process as well as completion will be emphasized.
2. Christian Values: The curriculum will emphasize Christian values, encouraging students to express their faith and reflect on biblical themes through their art.
3. Appreciation of God’s Creation: Students will explore the beauty of God’s creation and learn to see the world through an artistic lens.4. Critical Thinking and Creativity: Students engage in creative problem-solving, learn to think outside the box, and express their ideas visually.
5. Art Appreciation: Students will learn to appreciate various forms of art, including paintings, sculptures, and other types of art. They’ll briefly explore different artistic styles and techniques.
6. Art History: Students will be introduced to famous artists, art movements, and historical contexts. Students will learn the cultural significance of art throughout history from a Biblical worldview. A very small amount of time will be given to Art Appreciation and Art History for the Elementary grades.
7. Discovery, Exploration, Observation, Thinking, Creating, Rigor, Fun!: These are not just words. It is my aim to guide students to discover, explore, think deeply, observe, create, and to work hard. It is my hope that these God-given abilities would be strengthened in a loving, caring, structured, fun, and supportive environment where the students are not afraid to take risks and ask questions.
