PLEASE NOTE: If your child took elementary art this past year or the year before, this next year will be primarily NEW curriculum, not a repeat of the past year or two. Same traditional art concepts, different lessons. Curriculum repeats every 3rd year.
Students will learn the basic elements and principles of art while at the same time experiencing art in a fun and tactile manner. Elementary art is very much about exposure to different art media and the learning of tactile and visual skills. Art at the elementary level is not just about art concepts but encouraging the physical and mental development of a child’s brain that transfers to other areas of life. Just like music, the practice of art makes for a well-rounded brain and body for any child. Every child should have an elementary art experience for this reason alone. But, this is also a fun course where students learn to think about art, see and examine the world, but also learn how to use their hands, their arms, a pencil, a brush, etc., all sorts of 2D and 3D media to create in reflection of their Creator. At the end of this course, students should walk out knowing that art experience is fun, that doing art is great for everyone, should have improved lifetime tactile and visual skills, and have little fear or intimidation of trying and learning new things.
Your $70 supply fee covers all the in-class items like giant paper and brushes and paint, clay, etc. I encourage every family to purchase their student their own sketchbook, a set of good drawing pencils and sharpener, a pink pearl type eraser, and a set of colored pencils to practice at home. If you have similar things already at home, that will suffice. (May I suggest that Ross or beginning of year school sales often have these basic items for a very inexpensive price.)
Class minimum is 6. Class maximum is 18. Class minimum must be reached by August 14 for this class to be considered to make. Please register early and pay your first month’s tuition and fees to both hold your spot and to make my planning easier. Should this class not make, families will have the option to shift their enrollment to the other elementary art section. This class has 2 sections. Should numbers be very low, I will combine to one section. Past year had 2 solid sections.
