Allyson Bakken felt called to become a teacher at a young age and aside from becoming a mother to three beautiful ones, she considers the gift of teaching to be one of the greatest things with which the Lord has blessed her. She deeply desires to use that gift to glorify and honor Him, and she is most content when she has an opportunity to teach or mentor young people; be it in a classroom setting, at her church, or in her own home.
Allyson graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and certifications in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Gifted and Talented Education, and English as a Second Language. During her professional teaching career she utilized her knowledge and expertise in the area of mathematics to become a curriculum writer, trainer and presenter. After a fruitful career spanning over ten years in the public school system in both Waco ISD and Spring Branch ISD, the Lord called her to begin educating her three children at home. She is eternally grateful for the precious time she is able to spend with her own children and considers it a privilege to partner with other parents in the care and instruction of their children both at PREP and in her private tutoring business.
Allyson's prayer for her students is that they will leave her class with a new assurance not only in their mathematical abilities, but also in who they are as a creation in Christ; uniquely and wonderfully made in His image as a problem solver and critical thinker, and precious to Him in all that they are.
This upper elementary math course emphasizes abstract thinking and mental math strategies within the problem solving model. This class is an interactive hands-on approach to thinking about mathematics and will use manipulatives to introduce new concepts and reinforce previous ones. Students will work in groups and complete individual tests and quizzes to show mastery of the curriculum.

This final middle school math course will help students take what they have learned and apply it independently in preparation for high school math. Students begin by learning the new language of Algebra focusing on Integer/Variable relationships through equations and graphing. A big piece of this course is also familiarizing students with the new terms and vocabulary to help them be better prepared for high school mathematics. Students entering PreAlgebra should be prepared to analyze real world situations and write and solve algebraic problems. Notetaking is another valuable skill taught throughout this honors level course.
