Shelly holds and Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from The University of Houston. However she has always enjoyed taking complex information and making it meaningful and relatable for others. Along with homeschooling her own children, years of teaching women’s retreats, conference workshops, subbing for PREP, leading ESL classes and developing curriculum have allowed her to put her passion to practice. Shelly believes that having a wide-scope understanding of history helps students to recognize patterns, avoid the mistakes of the past and make wise decisions that will improve the future. Her aim is to make learning history fun, engaging, memorable and personal.
Using a hands-on approach to make history come alive, my desire in this course is to help your child become passionate about God’s faithful interaction through all the details in World History. We will follow a systematic approach to the class as students read the text and writings, review the lessons, complete maps, and follow a timeline. In our class time together, we will be doing performance-based activities that will include the following: quizzes, mini- speeches, reports, plays, games, lap books, and other group-oriented history activities.

This hands-on World History class will take students on an exciting journey through history from the dawn of civilization to the present day! Students will “experience history” in class as we “travel through time”. We will utilize class discussion, projects, games, and other interactive activities to learn how we arrived at this point in history.
Primary source documents, current events, and the textbook will also be investigated to aid students in understanding the various political, social, religious, and economic developments that have shaped and continue to shape the World. Emphasis will be placed on viewing history through the lens of the Bible as students develop skills that will help them become better critical thinkers and global citizens.
