This course will focus on writing, literature, and grammar. We will complete weekly writing assignments, read and discuss several novels, and review grammar along the way! English 5 is a teacher and parent partnership, and I will need your help to make this year a great success for each student. Parents will be responsible for editing writing projects, checking grammar homework, and monitoring novel reading.

1. Fix It! Grammarby The Institute for Excellence in Writing. “Students hunt for and correct errors in daily passages that cumulatively tell a story. Fix It! 2. Structure and Style for Students, Year 1, Level A (Binder and Student Packet*) by The Institute for Excellence in Writing. This will be our main in-class curriculum. Utilizing curriculum from the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), students will learn a variety of stylistic techniques as they work through nine structures of writing including: note-taking & outlines, writing from notes, retelling narrative stories, summarizing references, writing from pictures, summarizing multiple references, inventive writing, formal essay models and formal critique. *This should only cost $35. 3. Portable Walls by The Institute for Excellence in Writing. “With Portable Walls students can create a writing station right at their desks. Other important info:

Tuition can be paid by Zelle (preferred), check, Venmo*, or cash. Monthly tuition is due the first class of each month.  Late tuition will incur a late fee of $10.  For students who drop the class after September 30, three months’ tuition will be required as a drop fee.  For students who drop the class after December 15, tuition for the remainder of the year will be required as a drop fee. (*If paying by Venmo, please help cover the Venmo business fee. Prices adjusted to $61/month or $549/year.)

Additional Supplies: Students will need loose notebook paper and pencils or pens. Students will be provided with a folder for homework and graded work, along with a journal.
