This course will focus on writing, literature, and grammar. We will complete weekly writing assignments, read and discuss several novels, and review grammar along the way! English 3 is a teacher and parent partnership, and I will need your help to make this year a great success for each student. Parents will be responsible for editing writing projects and monitoring novel reading.

Required curriculum, to be purchased by parents for the first day of class.

1. Adventures in Writing by The Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) “Explore a wide variety of fascinating topics such as dolphins, tornadoes, Leif Eriksson, and other interesting subjects while learning to write with the Structure and Style writing method. Working through IEW’s Units, students learn to take notes, retell narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, compose essays, and more!” https://iew.com/adventures-in-writing-student-book-only

2. Portable Walls by The Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW). “With Portable Walls students can create a writing station right at their desks. This tri-folder is packed with the Unit Models and several word lists, including prepositions, strong verbs, substitutes for said, and more!” https://iew.com/shop/products/portable-walls%E2%84%A2-structure-and-style%C2%AE-students

(Grammar will be integrated across our writing curriculum and our novels. Grammar curriculum begins in 5^th grade.)

Other important info:

Tuition can be paid by check, Zelle, or Venmo. Monthly tuition is due the first class of each month.  Late tuition will incur a late fee of $10.  For students who drop the class after September 30, three months’ tuition will be required as a drop fee.  For students who drop the class after December 15, tuition for the remainder of the year will be required as a drop fee. (If paying by Venmo, please help cover the Venmo business fee. Prices adjusted to $51/month or $459/year.)

Enrollment note: This class requires a minimum of 5 students.

Additional Supplies: Students will need loose notebook paper and pencils or pens. Students will be provided with a folder for homework and graded work, along with a journal.
