This course will focus on literature, writing and grammar. We will read some great novels, write some amazing things and learn and review grammar along the way! English 4 is a teacher & parent partnership, and I will need your help to make this year a great success for each student. Parents will be responsible for facilitating grammar homework, along with monitoring reading and editing writing projects.

Required curriculum, to be purchased by parents for the first day of class.

  1. Fix It! Grammar by The Institute for Excellence in Writing. “Students hunt for and correct errors in daily passages that cumulatively tell a story. Fix It! Grammar™ is a six-year, incremental program that encourages students to apply new grammar knowledge in every lesson while continuing to practice what they already know.”
  2. All Things Fun and Fascinating by The Institute for Excellence in Writing. “Humorous characters, cunning creatures, and meritorious men of history will captivate 3rd–5th graders as they learn to write with structure and style. Moving through Units 1–7, students will take notes, summarize narrative stories, write from pictures, put together a mini research report, and compose creative essays.”
  3. Portable Walls by The Institute for Excellence in Writing. “With Portable Walls students can create a writing station right at their desks. This tri-folder is packed with the Unit Models and several word lists, including prepositions, strong verbs, substitutes for said, and more!”
