NOTE:  This is a two-day / week class.

This class is appropriate for students who have successfully completed a year of Pre-Algebra and have strong problem-solving skills. Class time will be spent teaching algebra concepts and applications. Students must be able to take detailed notes (quickly) from the board and copy examples worked in class to review at home. Students will use the textbook as a resource for reference, daily homework assignments, and test review.

• the number system
• solving equations; single-step and multi-step; single/multi variable
• ratios and proportions
• solving and graphing linear equations
• solving and graphing linear systems of equations
• solving and graphing linear inequalities
• solving and graphing linear systems of inequalities
• polynomials and factoring
• quadratic equations
• exponential and radical equations
• study skills and organization, in order to be a more independent learner
• test-taking techniques

Often, we will apply concepts to real life situations.  Students will be expected to complete word problems.   Graphing will be integrated into the teaching.   Students should expect to spend as much time outside of class on their work as they do attending class per week. The class meets 2 hours on one day a week and 1½  hours on the second day for the week, for a total of 3½ hours per week. This class will earn the student 1 high school honors credit in math.

Tuition:  $700/year covers both classes per week   ($675 if paid in full by the first day of classes)

Deposit:  $100 (refundable before August 1)

Supply Fee:  $50 (non-refundable)

Installments:  $100 per month (Sept-Feb)

Student is NOT registered for the class until the Deposit and Supply Fee have been paid.
