This upper elementary math course emphasizes abstract thinking and mental math strategies within the problem solving model. This class is an interactive hands-on approach to thinking about mathematics and will use manipulatives to introduce new concepts and reinforce previous ones. Students will work in groups and complete individual tests and quizzes to show mastery of the curriculum.  

Mathematics 5 Curriculum Description:

Place value through the billions place,

Comparing and ordering whole numbers, fractions and decimals

Estimation/Rounding whole numbers and decimals

Addition/Subtraction (up to 5 digit numbers, with/without regrouping)

Decimal place value (to the thousandths place, equivalent decimals, multiplication/division)

Multiplication (3 digit multipliers, factor trees)

Prime/Composite Numbers

Division (3 digit quotient/4 digit dividend)

Fractions (equivalent, improper/mixed numbers, common factors, lowest terms, multiply/divide)

Geometry (angle measures, perimeter/surface area,)

Measurement (customary and metric, capacity, weight)

Ratios/Percent

Introduction to integers

This class will meet twice a week on either Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Textbook: BJU Math Grade 5 Student Worktext (4th Edition)

Tuition: $650/year or $65 per (paid out in 10 monthly installments)

Non-refundable Supply Fee: $65/year; due to Ms. Bakken UPON REGISTRATION WITH PREPCLASSES to secure your child’s place in the course.

Drop Fee after September 15 will be 3 months tuition.

Drop Fee after December 15 will be the remaining year’s tuition.
