Prerequisite:  Completion of Henle First Year Latin (students entering this class from another program will be asked to take an entrance exam to ensure readiness).

We will begin the year by studying through the final parts of the Latin grammar that Henle did not cover in his First Year Latin text. We should complete this by about mid-year at which time we will pick up Caesar’s un-adapted Gallic Wars and translate selections each week. Students will be asked to keep a journal of their weekly translations which we will share and discuss when we meet. We will also translate together during our weekly meetings. To aid discussions, I will provide maps to help us follow Caesar’s journeys through Gaul and parts of Germania and Britannia, as well as identify where the various Gallic tribes were located.
